OK, this first subject is not “More of the Same”- quite the opposite in fact. As a lifelong Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves fan, my emotions have been jerked in all directions for the past six months, finally with a happy ending. They are in the World Series this year. We really haven’t reached the end just yet, but at least they’re in the World Series for the first time in 22 years. Watching Game 2 as I type this. By the time of the next post, the 2021 MLB season will at long last be over.
In the past 9 days I’ve managed to squeeze in another visit to my aging parents and a visit to our home under construction in Tennessee, both subjects central to the title of this blog. Repeating myself from earlier posts. In visiting my parents I see myself 20-25 years from now – severely reduced mobility, slowing mind, just about every part of the body deteriorating, etc. We were looking at their new assisted living apartment, which also represents a real loss of life’s liberties and a downshift in pace of life. Even the packing and 200 yard move will be a major burden for them. Plus they’ll be saying good bye to much of their household goods accumulated over a lifetime. A lot of the memories have been distributed amongst the kids already.
We are blessed to still have them in this world.
Then three days later we’re visiting our retirement home under construction – 80% complete and we’re getting excited. Will be closing in less than two months, then Christmas/retirement/moving all happening within 10 days. And it looks like we’ll be picking up the new car about the same time.
Last subject…this weekend we’re looking forward to a mini-reunion dinner with a handful of college classmates. One of those special experiences we can look forward to in retired life. Maybe I can expand my blog audience too.
