#12 – Trusts?

Regrettably I skipped a weekend and didn’t post anything new. Last weekend I was planning to be in south Florida for three days to watch some MLB Spring Training. The good news is I got to watch a game with one of my brothers. The bad news is we couldn’t find a single hotel room in central/south Florida for the next night and I ended up coming home 1.5 days early. No kidding, not a single hotel room.

This post I am going to bypass the subject of Estate Planning and go straight to a related issue- trusts. Will probably come back to Estate Planning another time. The question….have you thought about establishing a trust? I’m not trying to get personal here by asking if you have a trust, and wouldn’t expect many of you to proclaim, “Yes I have a trust.” But I would be interested in learning who’s thought about trusts, looked at the benefits or downsides, think it’s a good idea (but not ready to pull the trigger), meant to look at trusts, etc.

I’m reading a book entitled “Living Trusts for Everyone” by Ronald Sharp. For most people except lawyers and a few nerds like me I’m sure it sounds like a great sleeping pill, but so far it’s been an easy read.

Thoughts? Comments?

In the mean time, MLB Opening Day is this Thursday, and Sunday night is a pretty interesting March Madness college basketball game, at least for us: Florida State (daughter attended) vs. University of Michigan (son attending). Another “house divided” episode.
