I wanted to put this out last week to make a short interval between posts, but when you’re dealing with the US Government (USG) in anything related to hiring, even indirectly, just sit back and be patient. So, for now, this is an interim post to be updated soon…hopefully.
Almost four weeks ago I received a call from a former co-worker- one of the last individuals I expected to hear from, and she thought I was still working in DC (am neither working, nor in DC). After some catch-up conversation, and learning that I was retired, she asked if I missed the US Security Cooperation business I used to be involved with in Pensacola (answer: yes). Then she asked me if I was interested in getting back into this business. Again, yes. I absolutely enjoyed working in this business. One thing led to another and soon I was nominated for a full-time position to support one major HQ staff, and if that doesn’t pan out, there are two other full-time support role options.
Part of the process included talking through the options with other family members. Another part required me to think through the return back to a 40 hour work week schedule, especially considering the loss of being able to just hop in the car on a whim for a road trip. My first choice would be a part time role instead of full time, but there may advantages to taking a full work week for a limited time. I would not expect to be in this role for more than a year.
Details of the position descriptions aren’t very specific, but knowing this business, I can anticipate what the work will entail. Any travel requirements are unknown. But all the positions are telework roles from home here in TN.
Cash flow isn’t a major concern as I just started receiving Social Security, but the proposed salaries certainly make the job offers attractive.
So we’re waiting to hear from the USG, believing that we’re at the 90% level of certainty of a formal job offer coming through. When? TBD. Then it’ll be a matter of learning exactly what I’ll be doing- hopefully it will be win-win for all sides.
(Update 10 days later. Still have not heard a peep from the consulting company, which means they haven’t heard back from the client, who may not have completed reviewing the proposed packages. In the meantime I’ve kept a full travel schedule while having the freedom to do so- just completed one trip this past week with two more coming up. Believe these will be the subject of my next post.)
In the meantime, there are a couple more road trips coming up and enjoying the open schedule while I have it.
